One of the greatest pleasures in my life is being an Aunt! I have two nephews and two nieces (a nephew/niece combo from each of my two younger brothers) who are now all over 18. And I now have a great niece! Over the years I’ve learned the many do’s/dont’s of being an aunt with the four of them and offer these stories to readers of “lessons learned,” from our many fun adventures, travels and more!
My nephews and nieces are Nick and Katie (now adults in their late 20’s!); and Ian and Elyse (22 and 18). Each one of them is beautiful, talented, funny and loving in their own special way. We have always had a very close and loving family, and I have had the good fortune of spending a lot of time with all of them. But now, with the exception of Elyse, they are all grown up (well, okay, so is she!), so in this blog I will be reflecting on the past and capturing the wonderful memories of our escapades together. However, now and then I’ll also weave in the present as I continue to be as close to all of them as ever. And did I mention I now have a great niece Laura?
It is at the encouragement of Elyse that I named this blog “The Do’s and Don’ts of Aunting.” While I have many “Do’s” – I also have “Don’ts” – many of them humorous, many practical and many to help you stay out of trouble with their parents!
Our adventures have also included my Mother, their Grandmother, and my sister Debbie. While Mom and Debbie share many of my sentiments and have been participants in many of our adventures, they have their own special memories and unique relationships with the four of them.
Thank you Nick, Kate, Ian and Elyse (and Laura) for allowing me to tell our stories! I love you more than you know, and I’m so proud of all of you!
